I'm finding it difficult to think of it as a long term thing. I have always used dieting as a quick fix to lose weight thus my yo-yo dieting for nearly my whole life.

This is the first time I've had the realisation that it is a change for good, not just until I'm the size I want. I'm trying not to call it dieting but a diet overhaul. I'm not specifically denying myself anything, but I am super conscious about what makes me feel good and what doesn't. That's a big step for me! Keep going 😊

I'm determined to lose so am denying myself some things. Once I'm happy with where I am I'll gradually introduce things I've missed back into my diet and see how it goes. It's a balancing act between a healthy weight (and lifestyle) and what I want/like. Right now, I want healthy rather than the old stuff so it's not difficult. I'm sure as time goes on, I'll want the old stuff less so it will be less of a struggle. I hope that helps :)

Well said P..... San.d.g .....Life is for Living..... But you really do have to be happy with yourself first and foremost, If your weight has been making you miserable then tackle it head on and get to where you want to be first, then tweak the diet now and then for special occasions etc or when you just can't resist those oh so naughty food and drinks, we are only human after all and you only get One Shot at this Life so try and do what suits you and Enjoy It...

I'd prefer to think that until I reach my ideal weight I have to have a calorie deficit and then when i get into maintenance phase I would be able to introduce back some of my favourite food and having more calories. As long as I don't consume more calories that the calories needed / burnt then I can have my fav food in moderation. Someone said to me once that he goes to the gym so he can afford to eat cheese .lol

LOL Apantoja - I don't think even cheese would get me to the gym :D

You’ve put into words exactly how I feel! When you are dieting there are just some things you feel are just completely off limits and as you say, this should be a forever thing. I often stand in shops and wonder how this stuff is allowed on the shelves when it fuels these habits and bad choices (the really, really bad stuff - that tastes amazing, obviously!)

Great question, thank you SanDG! To me it is about playing with numbers and that makes the journey easier. I look or think of some food and I see the numbers instead. That gives me the distance from the food and I am craving less. Registering my calorie intake helps me enormously. Visualization of the numbers. To keep my daily intake and seeing the small green dots gives me a satisfaction, as an achievement every day. And then I create all those low calorie, tasteful, colourful meals and that is also a source of happiness. That is why I can cope with hunger easier. All these additional feelings stir away my thoughts of hunger and I don't need to satisfy myself with eating a bite of something... FatSecret is amazing, and the community here is wonderful and that is an additional help. I was here two years ago, lost a lot of weight. Now I am back and I know that I can do it again.
