I started the South Beach Diet on January 2nd. I have been faithful, but have not actually weighed myself yet. I want to wait for the end of Phase 1 to see what that alone has done for me. I took my measurements on Jan. 2, which provided me with plenty of motivation to complete the diet, despite my dislike for diets (aka deprivation). The South Beach cookbook recipes have been pretty good thus far, which has made it easier. My trouble spots....breakfast and dessert. I don't eat eggs, which makes a South Beach breakfast a challenge. I find that I usually eat a handful of nuts (15 pecan halves or 30 pistachios) and a piece of low-fat string cheese. I have always had a real sweet tooth, chocolate, ice cream, pastries...you name it! Thank goodness for no sugar added fudge pops and sugar-free jello...

I saw a friend yesterday and she said I looked a little thinner, so I am hoping that after a month or so of Phase 2, I can give Phase 1 another try without feeling deprived. I have never been so excited for anything 100% whole-wheat or whole-grain or sugar free in my entire life. Here's to new perspective on food! I think I will weigh in and remeasure tomorrow (last day of Phase 1!) to see what progress has been made.

Today we went shopping for Phase 2. Since I have never been one to purchase "healthy" foods per the South Beach Diet standards, there were many things we've had to buy to be able to follow the diet successfully, but I think it will get easier as we slowly rid our house of the high sugar and carb containing foods overtime (The other two people in the house are not on the diet, so they are feeding on the things I am unable to eat).

You sound really well organized and thinking through all the key issues that can bring you unstuck on a diet so well done. Look forward to seeing a good and solid fall when you next weigh yourself.
