So, they did a study on weight loss maintenance and carbs. Pretty interesting:

Here are what people smarter than me thought of the study:

For me, 20 weeks does not seem like a super useful time window for maintenance. It would be interesting a few years out. The issue with the double blind water mentioned in the second article seems like a pretty big one. It would have been nice to hear whether with the pre-weight loss number those high insulin secretors still showed a statistically significant energy expenditure difference. As with so many things, it seems this kind of thing is better for some than others. Their classification of low carb, moderate carb and high carb was based on percentage of energy intake and not some set number of grams. I do not consider my WOE low carb but my daily percentages are in what they deemed the low carb range. My pig out days stray closer to moderate but high carb seems completely out of my wheelhouse. I am tempted to buy a ton of rice and push up to that high carb range to see if it would be harder to lose weight! They say curiosity killed the cat though......

too bad they did not do true low carb and do a weight loss study instead. unbelievable amount of money to spend on a study.

Thanks Gz9gjg. I don't know Baskington. I think it is cool they are studying maintenance since that seems to be what everyone struggles with. I found it funny that my definition of maintenance is more stringent than theirs. I can only imagine the costs if they tried to go years instead of months. Nutrition studies are challenging.

I hate that my line looks red in the little picture. It's yellow. I did a lot of work for that yellow FatSecret!
