Met with weight loss doctor yesterday. She recommended I drop my caloric intake to 1000 a day. Started me on generic version of Contrave.

Yeah, my huge concern is that, with gastroparesis, my body has been in or on the verge of starvation mode for years. Restricting more than 1200 calories a day seems counterintuitive with that knowledge. However, unfortunately, I’m used to doctors not knowing much of anything about Gastroparesis...

Update: Didn’t stick to 1000 calories today, but still proud of myself, because I only had 87 g of carbs today (for reference, yesterday was 180g, and I usually average about 140-150g). Have to remember to weigh in tomorrow. Started the Bupropion side of generic Contrave today. Have to take it for two weeks before starting the Naltrexone portion. So far, no appetite suppressant effect yet. Got called into work at 1945 hours, after eating dinner at 1800 hours. It’s now 2207 hours and I’M STARVING! Breath.... breath....

Remember feeling hungry is ok, nothing wrong with that it’s just a remainder to eat.

From little experience, it seems like no one knows the cause of gastroparesis. They probably don't want your stomach filled up too much, it would probably just keep stretching itself bigger and bigger.. I've seen many stimulators in place when they can't figure it out. I wrote a paper on it once. It was very interesting.

Cb1006, would love to read that paper. I have Idiopathic Gastroparesis (I.e., they have no clue what happened to cause it). I have two modes: uncomfortably full and starving ( which I usually get after taking my Reglan).

I agree with rosio19 seems a bit low for a doctor to suggest he maybe should say what types of food but to say drop your food intake by half don’t sound right??????

Razorray, it’s only by 200 calories. I usually eat around 1200 a day (barring parental death and 12 hour drives each way).

I was referring to a female is meant to have 2000 Calories a day it won’t leave any space for any cravings if you’re happy that’s ok and to be honest I don’t have more than 1000 myself but at first I couldn’t handle cutting it and I craved more and ended up eating just before bed and made it Worse
