erin74kr's Journal, 12 Jul 10

Well, last night I drank, and I never drink. An old old friend came by and we shared a bottle of wine. Luckily (I guess) I hadn't had breakfast or lunch and only had dinner, so I actually didn't go over my calorie allowance, but there was not a lot of nutrition that day. I made up for it today by eating berries and a really yummy salad and a substantial dinner. Don't think I'll be picking up a wine bottle for awhile, but there are plans for a few weekends from now that might involve being around it. I can always abstain.

Tonight, while I had planned to go to the gym in the morning, my monthly visitor arrived. Of course, this doesn't mean I can't go to the gym, but whether I'll feel like it in the morning is the question! I think I should drag myself. After my last sort of disappointing session, I think I can handle the introductory week of the C25K program and go from there. The thought of being able to run 5k is pretty unbelievable to me. I remember in grade 3, we had to run "27 laps" around the gym, which ended up being a 1600 metre run, or 1.6 kms, it was excruciating. I had to walk a lot of it, and usually finished near the bottom of the class. Being able to run 5k would effectively make me more fit than I have ever been in my life. I am excited about having a fitness goal rather than a weight loss goal.

I hope everyone is winning the battle this week. My first week I am down 5 pounds, but on first weigh in I was full of food and salt and dehydration, so I don't think this reflects actual fat loss. I think my weight loss will slow down after last week and even out. At least that is my hope. As much as I would love to lose it all as soon as possible, if I lose as the rate that's recommended, I will know it's truly fat loss and it'll be something I can maintain.

Thanks for all the comments on my last, confused journal entry. All the advice was amazing and helped me out so much! This community is truly unrivaled.

Ahh drinking wine is my down fall too sometimes...I absolutely love wine but I have given up drinking to the best of my abilites..I am opting to be the sober driver now.. I really believe in the c25k program. I really am enjoying it although I have taken a break because life got the best of me...maybe we could do it together...I was a slow kid in class too!! I have never been fast in my life..I want to be able to run for the time though, not the speed. I am not down any weight this week, but I am over the freak attack I was having yesterday because I was super bloated...My monthly vistor is coming too...ugh...can I just be 60 already and be done with this!! hahahaha

Drinking gets me sometimes too! And I did the C25K. It totally worked. I never thought I would be able to do it. Now I can run 5 miles! BTW, you are my new favorite forum poster today :) All of your posts are so spot on and well thought out. I agree with pretty much everything you've been saying about eating disorders. Best of luck to you, you're going to do great with the running, I bet! There's no better feeling than when you first run a mile and can say "I DID IT!"

@ k8 - you're so right!... the first time i hit a mile i shed a tear.. i was always overweight and could barely run 30 seconds.. let alone what i can do now.. i'm on the c25k program now and completed the 20 minute run... i thought like u did erin... 5k was so far from my grasp that i thought it would be in vain.. its amazing... and like one of my other buddies told me, its all mental... just keep pushin.
