I saw the dentist today and he said I have a dry socket; after the pulling of the tooth, the blood did not coagulate over where the tooth had been, and it is "dry" and painful. Can take a few weeks=he doesn't really know how long, but I am on an antibiotic again, pain killers, and warm compresses several times a day. I am optimistic that the compresses (the one thing I haven't done) will help it improve faster. This has put be in the uukiest of moods; tomorrow my daughter and two grandaughters are coming for an overnight visit; they are about 3 hours away by car and I'm hoping they will cheer me up. Trying to do OK on diet, rather than using food to up my mood-but I do indulge for that reason lately. Hope all my buddies are doing well.

Cindy=I know about the straw, and I have a special medicated mouth rinse, but he never mentioned any medication that he can use on me!!!!!!!!!!!! If it doesn't improve soon I will mention that my friend had some sort of daily treatment (that would be you). Thanx so much!

yeah, i am sorry i don't know the name of it, you might have an infection if your gettin antibiotics tho, cuz mine was treated at the site. the dr would apply it once a day for about 4 days. i didn't get a spcial rine just a syringe and was told to flush out food in there. well good luck w/ it. every dr is different huh!?

Im glad you at least got some answers and know what the problem is. It sounds to me like the compresses will help get that moist again and start healing properly now and so will the flushing, to keep food out. Thats probably why you are on antibiotics because you are at risk of infection, I think docs do that. Pain pills can be a real life saver during times like this so don't be afraid to use them. A doctor told me a long time ago that people do not get addicted taking pills they need... the get addicted by taking pills they do NOT need. So if your having pain, take your pills like a good girl! :D Maybe the kids coming to visit will help take your mind off it and you'll feel better (it works for me).
