Raptor_Mom88's Journal, 05 Nov 19

Today was the day! I met with a Plastic Surgeon at OSU, in hopes of finishing this journey.

The appointment went well, but as of now, I can’t have surgery until (see also unless) I am cleared by hematology. Because I have thrombophelia and have had a PE (amniotic embolism that broke off after my third pregnancy)... the risk of a blood clot after such major abdominal surgery is very high. Even if I don’t develop a clot, I will be on blood thinners, which may delay healing. So, either way, there could be complications.

On one hand, I am a little bummed out to have to wait, but on the other I wouldn’t trust a physician who was willing to quickly operate on me knowing I could clot or struggle to heal. I want the best outcome, even if that means the outcome is no surgery at all. In that case, I’ll spend the rest of my life wearing body shapers haha (better than spending the rest of my life morbidly obese).

So, for now, I wait for the call to schedule with hematology. I also was told not to lose anymore weight... so that will be interesting to see if I can stay the same weight until January.

My stomach is so disfigured from babies, 2 vertical c-sections (plus 1 transverse), being obese for 20+ years, and my natural body shape that the surgeon wants to go with a Fleur de lis. He also wants to do a full breast reconstruction over just a lift, so yay new boobs! Also, may have my arms done. This all depends on whether or not I am cleared and how much/how little my insurance will pay (they do pay for most of it) compared to how much I can afford beyond that.

I also got to take a full length mirror picture today and I am always taken back by how small I am now! Also... I tried on a size 8 jeans >.> they fit! I couldn’t buy them right now, but they fit! I wanted to scream in delight!

outstanding!! you are a real incentive for me. I'm trying to not let myself get discouraged. I have reached my typical plateau and fluctuating between 3-5 pounds. I always get to the same place...I lose 35 or 40 pounds then do this back and forth dance till I give up. Gotta stay focused and figure out how to get over this hurdle. Congrats on the success 👏🎉

@momsog Thank you! It is hard at times not to become discouraged, especially when we fluctuate. It's human nature to get discouraged when something doesn't go as we planned or something we changed goes back to the way it was. You'll get there! I've had some stalls along the way and just have to remind myself to keep pushing through and not give into my brain or temptations.

@keyten77 Thank you!!!! I will take that complement! I believe it will happen, but every surgery is always a major concern over some type of bleeding or clotting issue going on. I was so afraid when I had my RNY that I would have a clot, but I stuck myself three times a day with Lovenox for 6 weeks, and came out right as rain. I am hoping that hematology says that's all I have to do and using a wound vac will help promote healing. I am fine with not having surgery, but what I would give to have a new body that matches my new mind and life. Thank you so much for your kind words again! It means so much! I am hoping to get more active on here. I have been so busy with homeschooling and the kiddos I've forgotten to post or participate a whole lot.

Nice transformation. Hope it works well and you can get the things done. Why do you think you were told not to lose anything more?

you go girl. 🙏 for you.

@liv001 the way the surgeon explained it, if I am actively losing then say they do the surgery, then I could wind up with more loose skin. They like to see a steady weight over a 6 month period to make sure you’re in a maintenance phase and not an active phase after weight loss surgery. Something about metabolism and it affecting healing

@jcmama777 According to the surgeon, he can get them to cover the panniculectomy (removal of my lower stomach) and I will pay for the Fleur de lis. He can also get them to pay for my breast, and I will pay for the implants. Then they should pay fully for my arms. He said with as much skin as I have, there is no doubt it’s medically necessary. He said he may even get them to cover the Fleur de lis because one of my c-sections is a classic vertical (goes up past my belly button), and that may complicate any procedure. Fingers crossed!
