lindsey5584's Journal, 20 Jul 20

I have a couple of questions. I’m sure this will be long. But. I worked full time and went to class FULL TIME. And I became dependent on monster energy drinks. I know how horrible they are. And am working towards dropping them from my daily routine. Problem is I’ve got a caffeine tolerance of 4-6 a day. (Over a 4 year period)! I was told NOT TO JUST DROP THEM ALL TOGETHER BECAUSE THATS DANGEROUS AND TO SLOWLY DECREASE OVER A FEW WEEKS. Do you all agree with that?
My second question is since I’m trying to gain weight should I also wait to start hitting up a gym until I’ve gained enough weight and or muscle to actually begin to tone and first focus on actual weight gain (I was told to be less active to hold the calories I’m consuming to see a difference in gaining) I’m going to give 100 this time because I have people to seek advice from and kinda feel dumb for even asking these questions but I just don’t know. Thank you in advance for your time. 🥰

Thank you so much ok. Great. I’ll start adding in push ups and some sit ups. Some thing small to start off with. My fear is feeling overwhelmed and just quitting. So small steps. Thank u 😊

General rule in weening is to go slow and see how your body responds. You're body will let you know

Sk.17. Ok thank you that’s sorta what I was told too. I do know that if I have less than what I’m used to I get massive headaches I can’t get rid off. So I guess like a build up to the tolerance there got to be a reverse process ass well lol. Thank you !

The key to any weight-related plan is to understand how you are gaining weight. You don't want to gain fat and no muscle. A food plan is the best place to start, working with a nutritionist if you can. Do you know why you aren't gaining? Do you have a medical condition that keeps the weight off? You can change up the amount of protein versus carbs and fat, mix it up, depending on what you need. As for the moster drinks, you can quit them but you might have upset stomach and headaches if you don't replace the caffeine, but that won't kill you, you will mostly be tired until you get used to less caffeine. Could be a reason you aren't gaining too, all the caffeine keeping you moving too much!

Abbadabba I do know a few issues. And they are all medical. In 2012 I had a few ovarian tumors. They weren’t cancer but had them removed anyway. I’m also anemic. I’ve worked with a dietitian prior. But he was so smutty and mean it wasn’t funny. Just because one way has worked for another doesn’t mean it will for me. And all he did was hurt my feelings. Not a good way to keep clients lol. My family is not biological so I can’t go off my genes as I’m not sure on those. I’ve tried so many times on this process it’s unreal and just have got more negative then positive. But I want to gain so I’m back on this lol.

For the caffeine I would suggest taking it down slowly. So if you normally have 6 cans of energy drink a day, eliminate one can a day for one week. Then the second week, eliminate one more can and so forth. You might find that you will have a headache for the first 2 or 3 days, and might be super cranky and tired/fatigued each time you reduce a can. If your symptoms are not too terrible you could go faster of course! I have only cold turkey'd caffeine once (when I found out I was pregnant), and the headache lasted for over a week, and it was excruciating. BTW, it might be different for you, but pain relievers do zero for a "lack of caffeine" headache for me. Good luck!

hello! so my advise if you are trying to gain weight would be to definitely start hitting up the gym while eating a high protien intake. i would suggest at least 1 gram of protein per pound that you weigh. for example, if you weigh 125 you should eat at least 125 grams of protien a day. keep your carb intake high as well.. if youre going to the gym this will feed your muscles enough to grow and expand at a good rate and thus, you'll start to notice a weight gain. you don't want to bulk without going to the gym because all you'll do is just gain fat which is not what most people want to do.

Jazzylittleone yes! I did try to cold cut off one time and it was insane on the migraine. I’m definitely going to do the slow down on cutting back method. It was also suggested to take one aspirin a day before cutting back on the first one. That it could help I’m not sure on that yet I wanna research that first. Thank you for your advice darlin!

Caffeine is very addictive and it will be hard for you to quit drinking caffeine cold turkey. Especially if you don't get 4 to 6 times a week. I will see just that you lower your caffeine intake to 3 to 5 days a week to start and then lower each week as you feel tolerable. As far as when it comes to gaining weight. Decreasing your caffeine intake will also help you gain weight because caffeine is an appetite suppressant meaning you won't feel hungry when you drink caffeine i.e. meaning you will eat less. Having a lower calorie intake making it harder to gain muscle/Weight. As for the gym I suggest you try and regularly 3 to 5 days a week train heavy and push to failure for hyper trophy. Take your rest days and increase your calorie intake.

look up amino acids for addiction. 5htp, tyrosine, dlpa, and glutamine are tremendously helpful in this area.

I just quit energy drinks 3 weeks ago, I ended up minimizing how much I drink, so 2-3 cans a day, I cut it down to two then 1. when I stopped completely, I had 3 days of booming headaches. Slept those 3 days took hot showers and drank water. I eventually switched over to the drink Celsius, I drink it every morning followed by a whole gallon of water every day and that’s it. The drink powers me all day and it’s truly been a saver for me BUT I don’t recommend drinking it if you’re looking to gain weight as it is a thermogenic. (Burns fat)

I would USE the calories to build good solid muscle, that is the kind of gain you want, the more active you are, the more you can eat without it turning to fat because you will be building muscles. I know that because I train a lot, but I can't help you with the energy drinks, I never drank any ever, I do know I am slowly swapping out coffee with black tea, ( it still has caffine in it) perhaps you can try tea too?

Stephaniesmith. Thank you for your response. I’ll definitely try the cut back method and most definitely add to my water intake. I need to add more anyway I rarely drink it and I know that’s not good at all

Elizabeth tea would most definitely be a good thing for me. I do like tea and it would also be a source of water as well thank you 🥰
