Nimm's Journal, 29 Dec 10

I can't for the life of me figure out how the Atkins crowd manages to keep carbs down as low as they do. There's no way that diet would work for me - not by a long shot.

Fortunately, what I'm trying seems to be working and is quite healthy, as far as I can tell....but if Atkins works for someone else, more power to them, I guess. I need some of the natural sugars and complex carbs, though.

In the end I think it all comes down to calories. I was on adkins once and when "carbs" is not an option and all you have is "protein" then you tend to eat less because "protein" just isn't as good as those "carbs". I lost tons but i gained and back and then some. I think the key is moderation and keeping track of your calories. I want to do it right and healthy this time. Good luck!

@choo: That's what I was thinking...that the benefit isn't so much cutting carbs out, for its own sake, but the fact that if you don't eat carbs, you're almost necessarily left with a diet of leaner foods. Hard to go wrong with veggies and meats.
