Down another pound today! YEAH!! I'm thrilled...and feel less fluffy with each passing day.
The rest of the entry I am writing to myself - for down the road, when I hit a wall and am tempted to get discouraged. Here is my pep talk for ME:
I've been thinking - how good this feels to be taking charge, taking control, having a whatever-it-takes mentality - but DOING it on my own. That is a great feeling.
Last night at dinner another couple and I were discussing various WL methods and 'shortcuts' people try. We commented on two mutual friends (a mother and her adult daughter) who are taking a very very expensive protein shake, three times a day, which they bought from their chiropractor. They are losing weight rapidly. The protein solution costs $1200 for a 12 week system. I admit, it works - and the daughter looks great, almost at her ideal weight. But I can't help but think: What happens when the "magic potion" runs out? What happens then? If they have not corrected their methods in choosing the right foods, planning healthier meals, preparing their food, and eating it, than what's the use? When the "special stuff" is all used up and they revert back to old habits, then all that weight will pile back on.
Joyce shared about her SIL who purchased foods from Nutrisystem. It worked! The lady lost a LOT of weight, and when she quit ordering the pre-made foods, and began eating on her own once again, she began to gain. Less than one year later she was heavier than when she first initially began the WL program. Now, today, she is as heavy as her big brother, and he's a big guy.
What we are doing here on this Low Carb WOE is so different. We are learning; we are growing. Our cravings are changing and developing into something so much healthier. We are nourishing our bodies and fueling our bodies by ourselves, with what we choose to plan, buy, prepare and consume. We are taking the lead here...not merely relying on some quick-fix, magic wand to fix all the damage we have done to our bodies. We are learning how to do this thing right, healthfully and to keep it a way of life, maintaining a healthier, smaller frame for the long-haul.
Ya know, although my journey has been solid, it has been slower at times, much b/c of having PCOS which makes WL more difficult than for the average person. But when I come head to head with a stall I am determined to fix it - to change the situation - to improve myself no matter what it takes. If it takes making even more drastic changes in my carb consumtion, I will do it. If it takes removing all plastics from the food/water I consume, I will do it. If it takes investigating every back diet-calender entry to find what works best for me, I will do it. When I reach my ideal weight, even if it takes more than two years, I will be able to hold my head high and have the confidence to say, "I did this, with God's help". I did not rely on a magic potion that really is not that magic at all - because it only changes the outside of a person, not the inside. I am improving my inside person, too, every day in this journey. I am taking ownership, taking responsiblity, demonstrating courage and resiliancy - persistance and perseverance. I am becoming a better me inside and out.
