Densible's Journal, 19 Feb 09

I am really agitated and it ain't pretty. I have been simmering along on my lose a pound/gain a pound way until I read a journal entry-thanks sararay, that blows my mind.

It's about calorie deficits and how we (meaning me and anyone else stuck in a rut) may be running too large a deficit to lose weight. I know at the beginning of the year I was scarfing all that sugar, so I put my stall down to that but lately (like for 3 weeks) I have been more modest in my addictive behavior. I lost the same pound two or three times now. I feel like I should be losing weight (even for hypothyroid turtle moi) and nothing for months now!

So after reading sararay's journal today my gerbil starting running on it's wheel. I found this article so far and it's very interesting. I may actually start eating more calories-but nOT in the form of sugar and booze (drat) and see what happens.

Yes, good article. The formula of burning off more than we take in is supposed to work all the time but it doesn't take many other factors in to account. The quality of the food we eat is so important. Good luck this week!

Very eye-opening, especially given that those of us closer to our goal aren't able to lose the adipose tissue. Thanks for sharing.

cindyshine-finally you noticed me! lol. okay I will experiment-not sure what to add to get those extra calories-red wine or margaritas? Seriously, I could rack up a few hundred more cals eating cookies or icecream but don't think that's what sararay had in mind. Plus, did I mentioned I am petrified of change?

Love the article and it makes me feel a little better about how slow I am losing my weight. Just like you I am addicted to "routine" and change is not easy. However, If you notice my meals lately I have actually increased the amounts of food I am eating but my calories are not going up much. I am putting larger amounts of veggies into my meals, healthier choices, low fat cheese sticks, turkey slices in spinach salads, etc. I am eating a lot more now. Maybe if I increase my calories a few days a week and see what happens??? let me know what you decide to do?? I would like to have some whole grain pasta more often and our local favorite Italian place is offering it now. Isn't it confusing how often we read things like this though?? eating enough? eating too much?? eating the "right" foods? its a lot of info out there and a lot of it is conflicting. It is hard to know what to believe anymore isn't it.

Agree and I am not as smart as I used to be! If the brain is a muscle, I think some of my weight loss has come from there. My head hurts!. lol. I had pizza for lunch, guess that is not how I am supposed to increase my calorie load. Hrumph.
