FEAR
I want to talk about fear today. And i don't mean the little black spider that went behind the cupboard and you cant reach to kill it... I mean REAL and TRUE all consuming fear. In every person there lives a small amount of half-dorment fear. You fear that tomorrow life throws something at you, that you can't handle, you fear to lose friends or family dear to you, you fear the end. But normally those fears will not be in your head all day long, taking up a large part of your thinking. The moment you start to think about these things that you fear, you are creating a stress (fight or flight) reaction in your body. And if you think about these things days on end you will create the modern versions of madness like the burn-out. Personally i have a fear that might not even be real. It does not matter for this journal what that fear is, and it does not even matter if the fear is realistic or not, because the fear is real enough in my head, and there is no way for me to find out if the fear is real, without creating a real threat. I am living with this fear in my head every day. But it has been a long time, so usually like the more normal fear of death it lies dorment in the back of my head. Every month i get a dip in my hormone levels (or a peak, i really don't care which one) and my fears become realistic threats, and i am scared to the point of breaking. I know this process, it has been going on for 24 years now, and i know the hormone levels will fall (or rise, whatever) and i will be ok again...
so how do you face these fears? What tools have i learned in these 24 years? Here's a small list: - BREATHE and chant: Time Will Pass! - distract yourself - assess true threat - take precautions - pamper yourself
so, what do YOU do when you are scared? How do YOU face your biggest fear?
