It's my second day back in the groove. I got my overnight oats going last night, and made sure I had a leftover good to go for lunch. When I arrived at work, one of my coworkers was making breakfast tacos in an electric skillet in the breakroom. He had even brought in tortillas that his wife made yesterday. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the filling for the tacos was potatoes and a little salsa. No eggs, no sausage, just potatoes. I always eat breakfast at work. I never get up in time to eat at home, and eating at work allows me to be at my desk, looking like I'm on time, but gives me a half hour or so to ease into my day.

Now I had a choice. Do I eat my breakfast, or do I eat this gift of a potato taco from my coworker? For me it was an easy decision. I accepted the gift. There were six of us in the breakroom enjoying our tacos this morning. This is the first time we have shared a space like that since Covid. It was a wonderful moment. I ate a small portion, appreciated the chef, and appreciated the connection that only coworkers share.

I want to lose weight because I value connection with people and feel myself constantly holding back when I'm not at my best. While a potato taco (I still can't believe this is a thing he eats regularly) does not at all fit into my meal plan or weight loss goals, hanging out with cowokers before we start our day fits into every goal I have for my life.

I feel good about the balance I struck this morning. And my overnight oats will be there tomorrow, so I don't have to prep breakfast tonight. Maybe I will use that time to do an extra set of lunges.

Seriously, though. A potato taco. And yeah, it was so good.

I'm still working from home, for more than a yer now, and I miss those moments when we had breakfast and lunch at work. I would also get the potato taco, out of curiosity, but also to share a moment like that with the colleagues.
