My 9 yr old daughter has been my inspiration to finally get off my butt and do something active. She came home from school upset last week because another girl made a comment about her being to fat to shop at a particular store... While Dylyn is a little bigger than some girls in the class, she fits fine into kids clothing.
She wanted to lose weight. I explained to her that she is still a growing, losing weight shouldn't be the goal. We talked about how it is much more important to eat healthy and be active. I don't want my kid to develop an eating disorder or losing confidence because some other kids are just mean. We discussed all the different ways to get moving. There are no other children in our neighborhood, so I told her to look through my workout DVD's (which have been collecting dust) and pick out one for us to do...
It's become a nightly habit:) We have tried hip-hop aerobics, yoga, tae bo, and even belly-dancing. We sweat and laugh and have a blast. She emailed me our workout schedule for the next two weeks. She chose our rest days as Monday and Friday and Thursdays are for walking. I hope she continues to enjoy this because I know I am :)
Maybe next up I will let her get in the kitchen with me to make some healthier meals.
