Evie1010's Journal, 25 Feb 11

Note to self: You've come a long way, baby!

Had a terrific time at a marriage conference with Jim this past weekend - been too crazy busy to journal about it, but wanted to share. We also escorted two other couples (from our church) and we had such a super time together. I felt like I got a tune-up spiritually with all the excellent speakers and uplifting music. One quote stuck out to me: "We let the pace of home outrun the capacity of our souls". Jim and I resolved to slow dow - take a break, to focus more on US - togetherness. We already have a great marriage, but we resolve to live our lives so we are healthier people, emotionally: If we don't come apart (from work demands, stress) we will come apart (becoming frazzled and frayed at the ends) What a refreshing time to spend with one another with our sole-focus being eachother and our marriage. What a gift that time together was. Thank you Lord.

I also felt confident, having lost such a good bit of weight. Prior to losing the weight, I often felt self-conscious in crowded places. Previously I recall feeling concerned that when seated in stadium-seating that my mass would 'spill over' into the neighboring seat, making me uncomfortable...freaking out that I made my neighbor uncomfortable. Those thoughts did not cross my mind this time. How refreshing is that! I recall the ease and vitality with which I walked the vast conference center and parking area; whereas other years my energy and mobility were more labored. The sheer realization of how much healthier I felt was a good feeling.

Last night, on a date with my husband, we went to a restaurant we used to frequent quite regulary. We hadn't been there since summertime. Returning from the salad bar, I caught the eye of a favorite waitress who has always been very sweet. She looked at me and then took a closer, steady look, her expression saying, "I know you...but something's different." Then she smiled and nodded gently as if to say, "Atta girl - you've lost a lot of weight." She did not say anything - but her eyes and smile made me know she noticed.

Last week a gal at church approached me and asked me in a very kind and playful manner "Evie, are you shrinking?!" "Why yes I am." "Oh, I really notice it!!" she said excitedly. Later her husband stopped me in the hallway and hugged me, checkin me out and said, "You're looking so slim and pretty." Thank you Lord for these little gifts, wrapped in gold foil and tied with pretty bows - these gifts of affirmation.

I am committed to reaching my next big milestone of 50 pounds lost as soon as I can. Pray for me - that my body will cooperate. God is good - He is the giver of all good things, including weight loss. I believe that He adds His blessing to my diligence and sincere effort thru commitment to this low carb lifestyle. I praise Him for the joy He has given me thru this WoE and I give Him thanks for every inch lost. He's still working on me - to make me what I ought to be.

Evie....I am attending the Fresh Grounded Faith Conference tonight...our church is hosting it. Jennifer Rothchild and Stormi O'martian are speaking with Michael OBrien leading the worship...I'm so excited, I wish it was staring right now...My husband and I both have very stressful jobs in the law enforcement field and we have to remind each other sometimes to leave work at the door, on the road! I acutally have lost a total of 29 lbs since October of last year, but I wasn't really doing Atkins...and I went downstairs this a.m. to the clerk's office and one of the clerks told me I was "shrinking." It feels good to hear that!

Yay for you -- on all counts! Well done! So excited you get to enjoy that time together tonight. Is it a one-nighter or does the conference continue thru tomorrow? Ya'll have an extraordinary line-up there - heard each of them before. Jennifer is truly inspirational - and here's an interesting tid-bit: even though she is blind she does her own makeup everyday. She's gorgeous - truly stunning. And, guess what?! She uses Mary Kay! One the best! I hope you and hubby enjoy one another -- well, maybe if you enjoy eachother too much, you oughta get a room, maybe. Just sayin'....

SHUT UP...she does her own MK makeup?! I do too :) It is a ladies only conference...which quite honestly I'm stoked about! It's tonight from 7-9 and tomorrow 9:30-12 and then me and the little fam are going out of town for the afternoon!

Yeah, but you're not blind. She told a funny story once about when she hurridly put on her makeup to go out for the evening with the family. As she put on her coat, her husband paused and asked, "Jen, are you feeling ok? Your eyes look weird - they're really red." Upon closer examination one of the kids said "I think you used the wrong pencil, mom." She laughed realizing her mishap. She lined her eyes with her berry colored lip liner mistakenly. LOL - You ladies are going to have a super time!

Oh....so NICE, when others notice and acknowledge, good for you. It really is a confidence booster, as well as a great motivator. Glad you enjoyed the conference with your DH and felt uplifted on many levels. I have been wanting to go to a retreat, but so hard, due to my husbands schedule...planning is so not an option. Have a wonderful day. Much love and hugs.
