apparently women are to consume 2000 calories per day to maintain weight and 1500 to lose weight

Depends how much you exercise/your metabolism. I was doing 1200 calories a day and exercising an hour a day to lose weight and this worked quite well.

I'm a male who weighs 80kg (down from 117kg) with heavy weight training sessions and my goals are to lose belly fat while gaining muscle and 2000 calories is my absolute maximum so 2000 is definitely too much for you. If you can comfortably eat 1500 and that gets you closer to your fitness goals then you should do that.

It varies greatly depending on your genetics, diet, and activity level. I'm 70kg, 174cm male. Most of the apps says my maintenance calories is about 1950 to 2100, but I have to eat about 2,400 kcal to maintain. I sit around most of the day but I do weight training 3 times a day. My partner had gastric bypass almost two years ago. He eats very little, but it is still very easy for him to gain weight. He probably eats a third as much as I do, but weighs close to 130kg, and he's 180cm. Admittedly, he does not exercise nearly as much as I do. It also depend on where you calories come from. I eat a lot of protein and avoid sugar and fat. If you want to lose weight, you should eat more protein, and do cardio. Eating 500kcal less a day is aggressive. Aim to lose slowly, maybe 200-300kcal a day. Take your time doing it. You are less likely to go yo-yo that way. Also, diet alone won't do it. Diet + exercise + sleep together give much better results. Good luck.

I do eat 1200 calories a day and I feel good. I think that much less than that is not good. but if you feel good at 1500cal just stick to that

anything less than 1,200 when you are exercising is dangerous in my opinion. best to ask a dietitian.

anything below 1500 calories is bad

1500 is ideal, however, if your exercising daily probably 1500 is too low I think

find a BMR (basic metabolic rate) calculator online, add in your height, weight, etc ......this is the least amount of calories a day your body needs to function ie breathing, talking, heart beating, brain function without any exercise. (mine is 1800 due to being very overweight) add on what exercise you do (1000cal for me i'm very active @ gym 6 days + bushwalks and hikes) that gives u your cal total then try consuming 500 cal less then your total, but try not to eat under your BMR as this is dangerous and will put your body into starvation mode (which is what my body is in and i cant lose weight and have a very low resting heart rate 40bpm if i can't eat enough)(I have a medical issue that stops me eating but i'm working on it) really hope this helps
