It feels like just a tiny bit of candy and throw a huge wrench in my plans. One minute I’m doing good and then I see some candy and its game over.
Today I narrowly avoided it but I’ve come to the realization that if I miss regular meal time and I get too hungry it’s a lot easier to throw the rules out the window.
I’m 40 dammit; why does candy plague me like this?

This is SO relatable! I’m the same way with candy…and sweets of any kind. Then once I cheat it’s like GAME OVER. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A tiny bit of candy is fine, unless it triggers you to continue eating and go way over on calories. If you are an overeater, like most Americans, it's best not to have foods like that in your house. This doesn't mean you can never have them again. You might just want to avoid them until you retrain your brain while you get healthy. If you can't remove them from the house, you can try a few things. Do some IF. I eat 11a, 4p, 9p. I can maintain my weight at 3k cals and know I can eat up to 1k cals/meal without gaining. Drink 100+ ounces of water every day. When you eat, get your proteins and veggies in first and 16-20oz water. Don't eat the tasty candy when you are starving. Don't get upset about things you ate. It only makes things worse.

I learned many years ago not to keep stuff in the house that I do not want to eat. If cake, cookies, candy were in the house for an event I just threw the stuff out when it was over. Wasteful, yes, but it works until your habit of not eating that kind of stuff too often is well developed and ingrained.

Have you tried chewing on your favorite gum flavor to quench that desire? I buy several packages of different flavors to keep my interest. I also enjoy the orange tic tocs that have zero calories.

Sugar is addictive to me. Once I have some I get on a trend. The best thing for me is abstinence.

Yep, I have to practice avoidance because if I am around the temptation I fall head first into it.

This is something that has plagued me since I was a teenager. I wanted to gain weight so I would eat three snickers bars a day. That caught up with me and then sugar was such a nasty habit. I finally broke habit three years ago when I joined a gym and the trainer has worked with me on nutrition and weight lifting. However just like many others on this post I just don’t have sweets in the house. Also I know if I’m going to an event that will have sugar cookies or treats I just make sure that I’ve had a protein shake before I go and usually that keeps me satisfied and on track. Until I retrained my brain I too would binge eat candy and regret it but would get right back on track the next day. It is very hard and understand how difficult it is to stay the course. You got this!!
