GravyBoat's Journal, 15 Jul 11

I am also amazed at how few calories there are in some things. For example, a small slice of meatloaf (without gravy of course). Meatloaf is a viable low carb choice. I would not have considered it before.

I am really starting to see how I've been harmed by dietary advice that pushes me away from higher fat foods that help me control my appetite toward higher sugar foods that are prepackaged crap. Am I the only person that feels this way?

Oh yes, years ago I had some weight to lose. I was told stay away from fats! So I loaded up on nonfat carbs, lost some weight but at a high price. Now here I am doing it right. I feel better and stay full much longer. As a side benefit my cholesterol is finally down to a healthy level. It was all the "nonfat" carbs that had my cholesterol and triglycerids so high for years.

I am the same way. I did WW for 2 1/2 yrs. Lost 30 lbs but struggled the whole time. Starved and worked out strenuously for no less than 1 hour a day. In that time I lost my gallbladder and then gained almost all the weight back. I'm now doing Atkins and I'm at a lower weight in just 5 months than I was while on WW. No more prepackaged crap and I feel so much better.

Gravyboat - I used to be the queen of low fat (under 20 grams a day) I lost weight at the expense of giving up almost all healthy food - for example, I lived years without nuts, oily fish, olive oil, etc. My cholesterol shot up sky high and am afraid my joints are damaged beyond repair. Then, on top of everything, I started gaining weight.

Definitely not the only one who feels that way. Most of us have spent so many years low fat that it is hard for us when we begin this WOE (way of eating) to believe we can really eat the things we have always been told to avoid.
