It's almost embarrassing....

I went for my DC (Daily Constitutional) late today. It was a struggle to get motivated in the wind and the rain. I knew I would feel better, when I got home, I always do. When I woke up I wanted to move, but things kept happening around me and it didn't happen.

So eventually, at 6 pm, I set off, knowing I would have to push hard as it would be dark soon and was wearing my huge winter wool overcoat. I do a fixed circuit and time myself, so I can see improvements or not. I set the alarm for 22 minutes to turn around and stomped off. By the time I got to the end of our track, 300 yards or so uphill, I was ready to go. I took a few paces on the road and had the urge to RUN..!

What??
I never run.
I don't like running, never have.
Unless it's to catch up bus in the school days or catch sheep these days I don't run. Apart from anything else, a natural 36H woman doesn't run for fear of black eyes ...
;)

I ran.
It felt good.
I ran, and then walked, and ran and walked and ran and walked.
Isn't that the way the old log distance messengers got there quickly?

I wasn't winded. My lungs didn't burn. My lungs Always burn when I run. I felt easy and fluid. My legs didn't burn. It was the strangest feeling!!

Of course I made a further distance then ever before. The return was also faster than ever and I didn't feel as jaded as I usually do.

Something good has happened to me.
Maybe it didn't happen to me, I did it, I have made the changes intentionally so I am happy taking the credit.
I took the blame for getting my body bad, I can take the credit for the good too.

Ok, It's not even a 5k run, or anywhere near, but all of a sudden I think I get why people want to run. It feels flippin' good!! I am wondering if I might start to like regular running....

Let's see what tomorrow brings first ;)

Trouble is, they don't seem to think us well endowed girls are sporty types... the special ones I have cost £85 a pop as it is!!! Gulp. It's interesting that although the girls are supposedly made mostly of fat they don't seem to be shrinking much as I lose weight......

Glad you're enjoying the new accomplishment. When I first started running again I was scared of having a heart attack!

Heidi - only the one? That doesn't bode well for me then, or do you run more often now so it's a normality?

Jim, I know that concern too. I think I am ready to take it on :) MY cardiologist said I have the heart of an athlete, perhaps my body is at last catching up :D I know the heart likes pumping....

It only happened once for me, but it might still happen again, and hopefully it will happen for you again very soon. I have bad knees, so I don't like to run even a little bit. So that day I was almost-running, moving as far as I could without actually running. I was zooming past people in the street, they must have thought I was in a dreadful hurry to get somewhere, but I wasn't, I just felt like doing it! Actually, I'm sure I will do it again, it was great fun 😁

* 'fast', not 'far'

Your knees may well improve with the ever new lighter you too. I have always walked fast, just on a regular going round town jaunt people with me tend to struggle to keep up. My back suffers when I go slow, I need to keep moving! Zippy is good :D :D
