I decided to go through the closet in the spare bedroom to see what 20-40 lbs ago clothing was hiding there that was just too nice to get rid of. I tried on the gown I was married in 17 years ago - too big (and why was I keeping it anyway?). I looked at that beautiful black winter dress and coat - too big. One last number to try on - mid-calf length slit up the side summer dress which I know is too big. But, I might consider getting it altered (I really like this dress). I'll probably have another go later as there was a dress coat in there that I haven't worn in over 10 years that is most likely too big.
A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready to go camping and decided to dig through jeans that I had put aside years ago because they were too small as I didn't want to wear my good jeans. I thought "maybe, just maybe, they might sorta fit since my normal jeans are getting loose". I now have two pairs of jeans that fit nicely. Gonna demote one pair of my "good" jeans to garden work.
It dawned on me that I was holding on to clothing that, while very nice, I didn't ever want to be able to fit into again. I needed to bite the bullet and go through what had been hanging in the closet, unworn, for years. I will now donate this clothing to a charitable organization in hopes that someone else might get use out of them.
I just read this aloud to my hubby and got all teary-eyed and emotional. I didn't know how much I didn't want to go back to where I was. Thank you buddies and FS members for helping me on my journey to a healthier life.
