Athletica's Journal, 05 Nov 07

So, I have been thinking about my family and their weight issues...I realized that most of my family members are overweight or a few obese. I have been a little chunky in my life, but have never fallen into the overweight or obese category. I was also looking at my husband's family; most of them are not overweight, although some of them carry a little extra weight around the stomach. Anways, it just goes to show that genetics are a part of you, but they don't have to define you. Like I said before, most of my family members are overweight, but one of my brothers has always been in great shape-never overweight and very athletic. My goal is to be heathly and I also love athletics, so I am always pushing myself to perform better. I don't have to become overweight like most of my siblings became as they aged.

amen to that! weight is mostly about lifestyle, not genetics. and since usually everyone within a family has relatively the same lifestyle habits, if they are bad ones everyone will be overweight. i read that the rapid increase of obesity over the last years has been too fast for it to be anything your genes are causing. people just look to put the blame outside of themselves too much, and being healthy is truly a choice that everyone makes for themselves. your brother is a great example of that. obese people are more likely to have obese children and obese PETS... lifestyle or genes to that?
