Hi misterbee - Today was a high cal day for me too. Not as bad as it could have been though. I have recently started taking my carbs seriously as well. Last week I was lucky enough to get a continuous glucose meter and it has opened my eyes. Can't get away with anything when you know what your bg is constantly. Guilt gets in the way. Also, I have a constant reminder of what diabetes can do to you as you get older as my husband is now on dialysis do to kidney failure. Not fun for either of us. So I have started using Fatsecret to try to control my bg. My stats have greatly improved over the last year. I am on insulin. 35 units of Lantus @ bedtime and Novolog on a sliding scale before each meal. You sound like you are able to control bg by adjusting your insulin. I hope that you succeed in controlling be it with what you eat as that seems to be your goal. Good luck.
