JackieSpahr's Journal, 06 Mar 18

Good day. Pretty close to goal. 71% fat; 19% protein; 10% carbs. Getting enough protein is difficult for me unless I eat 3 full meals. I usually don't have my first meal until about 11 am and want to be done eating by 7 pm. It was a good thing not to weigh this morning and I've quit testing for ketones in my urine. The way I eat I know I'm in ketosis. Oh, also, I saw the Sleep Apnea Center tech today to get my last check on my new mask. I'm down to 1.5 episodes an hour which is A+. I'm a happy camper.

Not enough protein? I had to shift my whole way of thinking to limit my proteins down to the 55 grams you listed! I managed this by switching to one meal per day. Isn't it funny how we come from different ways of eating to find what works for our bodies?

How do you check your ketones in your urine?

@moogiemynes I was told by my nutitionist and the surgeon that protein requirements are a minimum of 50g/day on avg for adults Googling it says .8g for every 2.2kg of body mass. So if I want to weigh 170, I should be eating no more than about 62g of protein. 🤷🏻‍♀️

By that formula, I need 53 grams of protein, but because I used to be a body builder, I had been using a different formula that told me I needed 97 grams. My mouth got used to that, so I had to retrain it.

If you split your two meals, same total cals, into six, that by itself will precipitate weight loss. I know, BTDT.

Thanks, all. My goal is 20% protein. Mcondleo - I was using keto sticks that I got at the pharmacy. Just something else for me to obsess about. It's good for some folks - confirmation and encouragement but I can turn anything into a addiction. 🤣

@adamevegod1 Some of the problem with more and smaller meals for people who have insulin resistant issues is that it doesn’t lead to weight loss, by keeping the insulin circulating it’s actually making the situation worse. Diabetics have been given this advice for decades and it has helped to make many of them fatter because not all bodies respond the same. LOL Now the medical community is finally catching up to that fact. There is a good discussion of it in Dr. Jason Fung’s book, The Obesity Code. That explains insulin resistance, hypoglycemia and diabetes and why some of that didn’t work. 🙋🏻
