We celebrated my Mom's birthday today. I was really good at Red Lobster, which hopefully made up for the birthday brownies and ice cream later. I just couldn't resist! But I tried not to eat too much. Also, diet sodas are my friend.

I'm loving the softball lately . . . It's not as good for me as running (which I really need to get back into), but it keeps me outdoors, away from the sweets :-) This weekend proves that my sweet tooth is hereditary . . . but I will prevail!

All in all, I'm okay with my progress so far. I still haven't officially weighed in - my starting weight was really more of a guess,since I don't own a scale. I need to put that on my shopping list. LOL, maybe if I owned a scale I wouldn't be needing to lose the pounds. I just hate scales. I have an aversion to all numbers. Math was never my thing :-)

Bah! I did bad yesterday . . . and it started out so well . . . It was and the wine. And the cheese bread. Well I guess that's what you get when you cook a romantic dinner for two. Well, time to get back on the bandwagon today!

Part of the problem, I think, is that I had to estimate so many of yesterday's calories. I had to do it today, too (We went out for Vietnamese food). I just hope I wasn't UNDER estimating . . . oh well, I can't painstakingly count EVERYTHING I eat. I mean I know you're supposed to, but I just don't have the patience. At the very least, I think years of reading the nutrition labels on packaged food has given me at least a decently good idea of what calories are in what foods.

Also, even if I don't know exactly what the calories are, I figure I can make healthier choices (chicken vs. beef, grilled vs. fried, etc), so that even if my estimates are off, I'm not completely wrecking my body.

Well, first off I just want to say thank you to everyone who commented on my first journal entry. Everyone on this site is so nice! It was nice to start off my diet with a success story and have so many people encourage me :-)

Today wasn't as good, but overall I'd say I did OK. I ate more calories than I burned, but I did play some slow pitch softball on the company team. That at least kept me out of the house and away from the food. I really can't play softball at all (they always put me in right field . . . not that I'm complaining) but it's fun to get out anyway.

I'm trying not to snack at night - that's the thing that really gets me. So how convenient that this site is here as soon as I get home. I think the biggest thing is just keeping myself busy with active things. Also, I've noticed that watching late night TV makes me want to snack, so I am going to bed earlier so that I can keep that from happening :-)

Well, I think I'm going to browse around on the site. Happy losing, everyone!

It's my first day on Fat Secret . . . and overall, I'd have to say that the day has been a success! I actually started out really badly - I had to pick up something at the grocery store on the way to work, and while I was there I also picked up a donut from the bakery and pint of skim milk (isn't that kind of like getting a big mac and a diet coke?). But as I was walking from my car to the office, I suddenly realized that it was the first day I was recording my diet on Fat Secret, and did I really want to start out my very public diet profile with a big fat lump of fat an sugar? I decided that the answer was 'No', so I threw the donut in the trash can outside and had the milk for breakfast, along with a granola bar I keep stashed at my desk for energy snack-attacks. Yay! Go me!

Then later this evening, as I was entering my calories for the day, I realized that my exercise diary was pathetic . . . so I went on a walk! Then I came back and recorded it right away because, hey, I want to give myself credit! And now I've spent the last hour or so checking email and figuring out this website, so that's already almost two hours this evening I would otherwise have spent snacking. I think I could get addicted to this site. Especially because it's free!
