21 December 2011
Last night was my son's first Christmas concert. As a celebration, my wife, her parents, and I took the kids out for ice cream...grandpa's treat!! It looked awesome and I was definately tempted to have just a little cup. During my temptation, I had one little voices inside my head saying "It'll taste really good, it's only a small cup, and it's free!!", but I also heard another voice saying "Yeah, but you had Indian food for lunch...that was your treat today." and "You know right after you finish it you will wish you hadn't". Ultimately, I did not have the ice cream and went home and had a banana. I have this battle with myself daily. If you have a similar
conversation
with yourself, feel free to comment with your internal debates...maybe we can all laugh at ourselves a little as we get ready for the holiday season. Cheers :-)

The weekend went realtively well, but the sad thing is...I think I eat better when I am the office. When I am home there are things to snack on or drink that shouldn't necessarily be there. I know it is easy to say "Don't bring it home", but when you have other family members living with you, they don't necessarily have your best interests at heart. While my willpower is good, I am not saintly by any stretch of the imagination. At the office, I have a drawer with bananas, apples, nuts, etc from a local grocery that I reach into when I am feeling peckish. It's all healthy options in that drawer. At home, there are
mostly
healthy options, but there are other items on the shelf that can be indulged in as well. I need a set of blinders in my own house some days :-)

Yesterday did not end as well as it had started. I had already booked the day off so I weighed in @ 6AM and lost 0.9lb. I then went for a jog around the neighbourhood. We had breakfast and then went out to a local Christmas tree farm for a Christmas tree (just for the exercise, photo ops & general experieince with the kids). Had a healthy lunch and then took the children to a local rink for skating in the afternoon. Then we put the tree up in our living room to get it ready for the official trimming party tonight. While doing the tree, my inlaws (who are visiting for the holiday season) made dinner and I wasn't told until after dinner was finished that the pasta dish we had was not Glutin free. Not a major catastrophe, but it did throw a monkey wrench into my current dietary philosophy. Ironically, my belly was what triggered me to ask the question as it did not sit well with me after just ten minutes of consumption. Today is filled with fresh fruits and veggies to get me back up on the horse...still have 6 lbs to lose before the end of the year.

One more weigh in down. It never ceases to amaze me how such a small change in your diet can change your metabolism ever so slightly to move you off that plateau and back down the right track again.

Losing 0.4 kg a Week
14 December 2011
Here we are at week three of the Glutin free experiment. I have not lost a lot of weight (~2 lbs) since starting this, but I have noticed the results. My waist is now two inches smaller than before, my energy level is usually pretty high, and my digestive system is working a lot better. I do find that I am craving the unhealthy things I have removed in my diet more and more every day, but I remain focussed on achieving the end results and not the perceived glory of the moment. "Lifestyle change...not diet" is my mantra.
