julieg4884's Journal, 01 Mar 21

Another one off, but feeling a bit sorry for myself TBH. Had a bad accident 5 weeks ago which has left me with a torn shoulder ligament and strained hamstrings. Was starting to enjoy walking when it happened, but now I can barely walk. Could do with some reassurance that the pain will go away and I'll be back on my feet. Seems to be taking forever. Oh well that's my moan for the day over. Enjoying reading all the journal entries and positive comments. Take care everyone 🤗

It does take time, but it definitely will recover! Our body is amazing at healing, it just needs some time. make sure you eat nutritious food, water and good protein. Is there any bed exercise like pilates or gentle stretching you could do to prepare the muscles? Hope you feel better soon!💐❤❤❤

Thank you for your kind words of support, it means a lot. Just fed up of being stuck inside, especially with the nice weather over the weekend. Will take a look at Pilates, although never done it before xx

That's a good idea! After having my baby I started with some short youtube vids...low level and not too strenuous and a yoga app as I felt I needed the meditative part to ease my mind and body! Good luck!

ligaments do take awhile to heal. I tore the ligaments in my foot about 20 yrs ago. back then I was told to use ice to take the swelling down then once the swelling had gone I had to use heat treatment. they've probably changed what's recommend nowadays tho. I just remember I was limping along for a couple of months and then I still had to take it slow cos the more I used it the more I'd start limping but I worked in a pub at the time so what else could I do lol. it will get better tho just give it time. and amcq you did more than just break your ankle you practically destroyed it.

I think shoulder injuries take a while to settle. I hurt my shoulder about 5 months ago through a repetitive strain injury and can’t believe how long it’s taking to settle or how painful it is. Hopefully things will settle for you soon. Best wishes.

Nothing feels better til at least six weeks.. but ligaments are so tricky. I will get onto the computer and put my shoulder exercises up for you to see. Like you, I damaged my shoulder and ankle at the same time, so you feel so helpless. I was in a wheelchair because I couldnt use crutches. After my second broken ankle (!) my recovery was so much better because of using two crutches. Don’t ever use just one, even when you can be weightbearing. Use two and ‘walk’ with left crutch and right foot, and right crutch with left foot. Be patient! It will come back.

Thanks so much everyone. Would be great trytrytryagainagain if you could send a link to shoulder exercises, as physio has given me an exercise leaflet, but it doesn't seem to help a lot. I was getting into walking and online Zumba before I injured myself, and it was helping with weight loss, but it will be a while before I can do it again. Take care everyone and stay safe. There is light at the end of the tunnel xx
