What diet are you on? 500 calories seem very low.

Hi Jenn. You are sweet to reply. I had a gastric sleeve done about a month ago. I lost 5 kilos (a lot) in the first week, 1.5 the second week and nothing in the two weeks that followed. This week I went back to eating nothing because I am just so angry and frustrated. I meet with my surgeon, the psychiatrist and nutritionist all next week and believe me they are going to feel my pain.
Week 1 liquids only
Week 2 + yogurt, applesauce, thin soups
Week 3 + pureed vegetables
week 4 + protein shakes or liquified meats
week 5 I went back to week 2

Calories fuel your body, without some kind of supplements you will always feel like you are starving and feel very tired. I always worry when I see people say their calorie intake is so low. Happy to hear that you are seeing a nutritionist soon. Nutritionist can be key for some people and their journey to getting healthy. I have different goals but just last week I wanted to give up bc I was getting further away from those goals than I wanted to be. Luckily this amazing site/app has some friendly people who help keep you on track and won’t let you lose your motivation.

Yes I have a vitamin suppliment at least for the first 6 months or until I can arrive at an acceptable level of nutrition just by eating. Which at this point will be never :( Sorry I'm in a dark place. I'm usually much sunnier than this!

Try doing some fasting, maybe a day a week. I find that helps break plateaus especially after a binge.

I had a sleeve done 3 years ago. The first few months I could only eat about 2 oz at a time. I lived on about 450 to 500 cals the first couple months. Then as your stomach heals you will be able to eat a little more. Then I had about 800 to 950 cals a day until I lost my weight. I felt very weak until I was able to eat carbs again. The first couple months is frustrating. you aren't eating hardly anything but you aren't losing weight like you think you should either. I lost 100 lbs in about 11 months. Depending on how much you need to lose you could lose more or less. I promise, it will get better.

Please make sure to take your vitamins. My mom is a health insurance agent one of her clients got bariatric surgery didn't take her vitamins and now has a neuro issue that makes it so she cannot move her limbs. Not trying to be scary but it scared me. Please if you have the surgery take the supplements. Also protein will help you feel stronger. I would try the protein shakes over the applesauce. May help. Personally I find if I have rather low calories for a few days a day when I eat a little more (not salty) food the next day the scale goes down. Everyone is different. You are making progress. The doctors are there to help.

my go-to for hunger is veggies. I just tried a pineapple kale and banana smoothie which was pretty tasty. Soup is a good one for me too, especially made with the bone broth that is popular now. Hang in there!

When you have bariatric surgery your hunger goes away. They cut out the hunger hormone, Gerlin, that lives in your stomach. it comes back later but for the first year I was never hungry. I had to make myself eat. And protein doesn't make you feel stronger. I had about 150 gram of protein a day after surgery and was weak all the time. I think its the lack of carbs that make you weak. that will eventually go away after you can eat a variety of foods.

Yes - everyone is different - I've learned that with so few calories my body tends to hold the fat thinking it's starving - another reason I don't do the fasting either - for ME eating a little bit at a time and giving my body time to process the meal/sugars and such has been the successful route!
