Sparks1971's Journal, 15 May 18

I expected better A1C results. In November it was 9.2, they started me on Metformin 500mg (I had quit taking it due to digestive issues). February I was down to an A1C of 7.9, they doubled the Metformin to 1000 mg, now my A1C is 9.5. It. went. up.

:(

I'm irritated and frustrated by it all. I know they will want to double my Metformin again. I'm scared they will add other drugs that always seem to make things worse, or even worse add insulin. I NEED to stay on keto, OMAD and intermittent fasting.

I have to make this work, I simply have to. I want to be here a long time for my family. I want to take my kids to Disney with their kids. I want to travel, and learn to love life instead of just trudging through it doing what I feel like I have to do to meet everyone's expectations, make everyone happy and take care of everyone else.

Sparks1971, I suspect you were born the year I graduated from high school! If that's the case, I was about your age when I was diagnosed with T2DM. I lost a few pounds but basically ignored my disease all the while the MD was raising doses and adding medications. Medications will only lead to more medications. They will not reduce your A1c without a drastic reduction in carbohydrate consumption and moderation of protein consumption. Insulin helps you process carbs ... and store the rest as fat. (Excess protein turns to glucose in a low-carb regimen.) You can and should avoid insulin if you get serious about a ketogenic diet plan. I've reduced my average blood sugar by over 70 mg/dL, while cutting my injectible insulins in half, since May 6th. (I stopped metformin last year on my first foray into LCHF eating.) Run, don't walk, to DietDoctor.com. For Diabetes: https://www.dietdoctor.com/type-2-diabetes. Then, start reading and watching everything you can there, especially "How to Lose Weight." If you have questions, we're here!

Thank you so much. I actually subscribed to their site a couple weeks ago but haven't had time to do much exploring. I'm going to check that link out right away.

You will get to where you want to be I have no doubt. Yes its is frustrating when results don't match expectations. But the bod sometimes has a mind of its own and it may take time the find the combo that fits YOU. Keep reading, keep learning, keep the faith and keep working at it. You will beat things and do all the things you want to do. Don't let the frustration distract or discourage you. More importantly don't let that frustration keep you from enjoying today to the fullest extent possible.

Do you check your blood sugar daily?

I check my blood sugar three times a day -- required when on sliding-scale dose of Humalog or other short-acting insulin.
