managed to get a mile in on the tread mill. I can't hardly stand the tread mill. So boring. It will be at least 2 months before I can walk outside again. Can anyone suggest good winter walking shoes? If I walk outside I will have to deal with snow and ice.

You should get yourself some Sorrels. They are amazing waterproof very warm boots and they are guaranteed for life. And, if you march around outside off the beaten track in a few inches of snow, you are engaging your leg muscles a lot more and getting more out of your walk. :)
