Mmmmmeg's Journal, 15 Jan 22

Today is day 2 of no refined sugar. For weeks now I’ve been going to bed in the evening telling myself I won’t have sugar in my morning coffee and oats, but then the morning comes and I crave coffee with sugar. So I’m really proud of myself that I’ve gone 2 days now without refined sugar. I’m focusing on nourishment: eating more plants, more protein, more complex carbs, and hardly any refined sugar.

I did a kickboxing workout this morning and had loads of energy.

Feeling good. Aiming to get under 80kg over the next few weeks. That will be a big milestone for me

keep at it. I stopped drinking coffee with sugar around the middle of last year. one morning, I accidentally put a teaspoon of sugar into my coffee (old habits and half asleep) and it was awful! it tastes completely different to what it did when I had it daily. it's an adjustment, but it's a worthwhile one

I also used to have 2 tsp sugar in tea and coffee and then gradually cut down until having none. Now I don’t even drink milk in my coffee 😆 and your tastebuds adjust, I enjoy it dark and black now !

I wish I hadn't substituted my sugar for sweetener because now I have a sweetener issue amd want to kick it. It's the only sweetness I get as I dont have any other form of it except in the 1 or 2 fruits I eat a day. I will keep trying .... good luck to you .. it is so worth it.

@spinksee - so long as you are using the natural sweeteners like stevia or monkfruit I don't see the issue (not dextrose, sucralose etc). Xylitol and Erythritol are also OK, but I don't love the chemically aftertaste they have

Try replacing sugar with xylitol, it really takes the urge away..

I don’t want to substitute sugar for anything else. I want my tastebuds to adapt to less sugary food. Our modern diets / food stuffs contain way too much sugar. Since reducing sugar 2 weeks ago I’ve already noticed how things like fruit, tomatoes, peppers, oat and rice milk taste sweeter.
