Hi there,
This is such a great community and am so glad to have joined, however, I was just wondering why so many people here on fatsecret eat so few calories. Do you not find it destroys your metabolism. I 5'3,female, however seem to lose weight at a steady rate at around 2000-2200 calories a day. What do you think?

I think I’m jealous that’s a lot of calories to lose weight with. You have a good metabolism.

We all have different bodies. I was eating 1200-1500 calories for 6 months I lost 60 pounds in that time. I’m down 75 pounds in less than a year. Right now I’m eating 1590-1800. I’m exercising a little more. A lot of people can’t exercise. Some have a lot to lose. Some have ruined their metabolism already. Mine is slow I’ve had it tested. My husband has a extremely fast metabolism and has trouble trying to gain weight and put on more muscle. Awesome that you lose at 2000 calories you are probably exercising. Dietitian recommended I eat 1700 calories and workout so my total daily calorie expenditure is 2300. If you are using more calorie than you are eating you will lose but it will change how much you lose based on how big a deficit you have. Most doctors recommend at least 1200 for a woman though.

Draglist have you ruled out any medical conditions that may be responsible for your slow metabolism? Have you heard of reverse dieting where you slowly introduce calories, for example extra 100 cals per day for one month then add additional 100 cals/ day for the next month. I have a horrible metabolism thanks to history with binging and bulimia so I can sympathize with you on that 😒

Toolsoftime, what's important is that you do what works for you. Don't change something that works well. If you're young, healthy and active you would need more calories than someone who is older and who does not have your energy level.

I’m 5’1 n I loose weight with 1700 calories a day (with exercise) But when I lost most of my weight I was eating 1500 a day

I follow a Keto diet, so I’m using a Keto calculator to find the correct calories for me. Using low carb macros. Changing your calories up can help you lose too. You sustain forever too low.

I think my maintenance is 1800, I’m trying to eat 1800 a day but I get full around 1600 calories (of course I can eat junk that don’t fill me up 😆 but I rather not 😉)

It is so interesting to see how different bodies work so differently. It seems that it is just a matter of finding one's own individual blueprint. Thanks to everyone for sharing with me. <3

I know it may be difficult Draglist but you should try raising them to 2500 for a month or so to reset your metabolism. That is insanely low. You will gain but eventually, you will stop gaining since 2500 is still pretty low for a male.

I struggle to get that many calories. Counting macros seems to distract me from paying attention until the end of the day. I have noticed though that the more steadily I eat the better my weight loss seems to be.

Yes, you must have a fast metabolism. I lose weight on 1500 cal a day. Any more than that and I will stay the same. I can eat 1700 cal a day and exercise pretty hard and I will also lose.

Calorie deficit and yo-yp dieting are SUPER damaging to metabolism. In the Common Sense Keto group on Facebook, LOTS of folk are losing weight/healing steadily since upping their calories. (Of course, the are keeping carbs under 20 and limiting protein.)

Ann, l'm slow this morning, which do you mean when saying calorie deficit...by having to low of a calorie count is a deficit or have a high deficit to work against the cal.count.Curious of your meaning.

I think it all depends on 1) the diet and 2) the person's activity level. I am on a whole foods diet. Most of my calories come from vegetables and grains - I consume under 1500, sometimes way less, sometimes fairly close to that number. I am also mostly sedentary because of health issues (I lift arm weights and do chair yoga, but anything dealing with standing, walking, etc. is difficult for me). If I were to eat 2000-2200 calories a day, I'd never lose weight. I'd gain.

A calorie deficit is damaging to the metabolism....you do realize you need one to lose any fat?

Calorie calibration? I'm confused. Do you mean custom daily allowances? A calorie is a calorie- there is no calibration. Each person is different. You need to use what calorie intake is good for you. A custom calculator I like is kero buddy- https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/page/KetoDiet-Buddy Check my posts. It's working for me unbelievably. 9 lbs / 30 days since custom calorie &macros But earlier on my own without the custom calculations: 18 lbs/6 mo or 3/mo 53 lbs in all or 1+ lb/mo Since March last year 1+lb/mo
