So I've been thinking about Medifast in this past 3.5 weeks that I've been on it, and each day I come to realize that I could probably make some of my own foods, and get more BETTER TASTING food if I could just make my own foods and still try to stay within the Medifast guidelines for calories/fat/carbs/protein. I know they did their research to make their food balanced and nutritious, but it seems like i'm eating more artificial foods than I need to be. I may be happier with making my own foods. I found a low carb nutrition shake online with good reviews, and I decided to get it. Some of my favorite Medifast items so far are the shakes and the brownies. The pudding is OK and the bars are pretty handy... but I think the artificial sweeteners (ex. the sugar alcohols) are causing gastrointestinal discomfort. I also found a low carb cookbook that I think will come in handy for making some recipes, and some other healthy foods online that would be MUCH cheaper than Medifast.

I'm not trying to put down Medifast, they know their stuff and they have a useful product that would be super handy for the average busy person with little time to prepare their own foods. The simple fact is, I'm a stay at home mom with a lot of time to think about food and recipes and I can prepare healthy and nutritious food without having to eat re-hydrated products all day.

Aside from the bars, shakes, and brownies my favorite foods have been omelets made from egg beaters (Medifast eggs are actually decent too) and steak dinners or grilled chicken salad. I think I've learned a lot after being on Medifast even for just a few weeks, and I've changed my eating habits from what I was doing before. I like that I'm eating better, and the eating frequent small meals is really growing on me. I think there's a lot more to learn to make the whole thing feel more automatic, but I'm getting there. Another random side effect that I think is due to eating low-carb is that I feel like my taste buds are a lot more sensitive. It makes the good food taste so much better! On the downside, it does make the bad and artificial foods taste much worse.

Anyhow, I'm not dropping Medifast cold turkey. I'm actually planning on slowly adding my own food to replace Medifast. I just placed an order for an entire month's worth of Medifast food and an order for some low carb items that I might use to substitute some of my meals for. I'm still tracking all my foods on here so I can follow my progress even while I transition.

Oh, and I totally failed my own challenge for not checking my weight except for once a week. I went a few days without checking, and then another couple days after that... but then every day since then. It does seem like I have lost a little slower in the last week, I sure hope I start losing faster again. This whole weight loss process is driving me a little crazy. I think if I'm going to be so obsessive I'll want to see more results!! I just cant wait for my goal to be reached. I'm not sure I can even see any change even though I've lost almost 25 pounds (almost 25% of my goal - 100 lbs). Its discouraging that even after GOOD results, I'm not seeing the progress like I thought I would. I know I'm crazy to not be totally thrilled about losing almost 25 pounds in less than 2 months... but I just expected to SEE more results. Almost time to take more measurements I guess. I know the measuring tape has shown a couple inches of loss as of a couple weeks ago. Clothes fit differently, but somehow I just expect more results. I'm very much NOT known for my patience!
