So decided to give mountain biking a try yesterday. Beautiful weather - almost 80 degrees and sunny, but the trails were saturated from rain earlier this week. Had a blast but really tore myself up - pulled a shoulder on one fall, quite a few bruises. But worth every bit.
Someone hinted that since I was in my mid-40s and spent so many years out of shape, perhaps I should slow down a little. I suppose at some point I'll have to start acting my age. I just hope it's a nice service.
Food and exercise for February 1, 2012:
Breakfast - Atkins shake
Lunch - Steak sandwich, fries, and a beer
Snack - beer
Dinner - green chile stew, salad, greek yogurt Cesar salad dressing
Yeah, the beer and fries played havoc with my weight. Thought the mountain biking would burn those calories, but it didn't.
Exercise - Stretching and crunches, 2 mile run in the AM, 2 hours of mountain biking.

I've decided to do a race or other event each month this year.
January, already ran the Celtic Crawl 5k (40:15, unimpressive finish)
February - another 5k on 2/18; the Love Your Heart 5k in New Braunfels
March - 2 options right now: a mud run in Austin March 3 or a 5k in New Braunfels March 10
April - Either a mud run and/or the Fiesta Wildflower 23 mi/40 mi ride on April 22.
Nothing planned after that until September. September 22 is the Conquer the Coast 68 mile ride in Corpus Christi; I am extremely excited about this one.
Journal for January 31, 2012 -
Food:
Breakfast - a few slices of dry salami and a slice of cheese
Lunch - chicken salad sandwich on croissant (forgot to bring lunch or stock up on shakes)
Snack - peanuts
Dinner - braised chicken w/ chipotle raspberry sauce, wild rice w/ walnuts and orange zest, almond green beans.
Snack - cup of green tea, some sweet potato chips
Exercise:
Morning stretches, bike ride to and from work

Losing 2.5 kg a Week

Last week was a rough week. Sick son, wife out of town, storms interfering with my routine, and just too busy to log in much here. But somehow my weight stayed stable last week.
Yesterday was back to normal for the most part.
Exercise - 2 mile jog with the dog, some leg stretches, and a bike ride to work. (Had to get a ride home because of the rain.)
Diet -
Breakfast: scrambled eggs w/ salami and cheddar.
Lunch: 2 Atkins shakes
Snack: a pickle spear and 2 slices of cheese
Dinner: braised chicken thighs w/ raspberry chipotle sauce, wild & brown rice w/ walnuts and orange zest, and almond green beans.
I'll try to get caught up on everyone's progress later today.

Still here! Just didn't make the time to journal last night. Exercise was pretty minimal (stretching and foot exercises, squats) but I'm riding to work today. Diet was so-so; I was doing OK until the boss called a meeting at the bar.
My son's already at home after the tonsillectomy and his girlfriend's taking good care of him, so Lindsey will come home tomorrow. Her being gone wasn't as bad for my routine as I feared; the storms did mess my exercise up.
And to be honest, I got a new phone in yesterday (Droid Bionic 4G); that was more responsible for my lack of exercise than anything. How did I ever survive with a 4G LTE dual-core 4.3" LCD Android Gingerbread phone?
